The Sierra Morena Mountain Refuge
To the west of Andalucia, in the Natural Park of Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche, and declared a Biosphere Reserve, sits "Sierra Morena Mountain Refuge", an old restored farmhouse on the southern slope of the mountain, 900 meters above sea level. We invite you visit and enjoy the privileged natural environment, including oak, chestnut, pine and olive trees, cork oaks etc. Great walking from the hut doorway. A warm welcome is extended to all visitors.
Access
We discourage the use of motor vehicles near the refuge unless necessary, so guests can make the lovely 1.5hr walk from Arroyomolinos de Leon accompanied by pack mules if needed.
Our Philosophy
Visiting the "Sierra Morena Mountain Refuge" and the rest of the natural park de Aracena and Picos de Aroche is more than just an unforgettable experience in nature. It is also an important contribution to the local economy.
During your visit you will participate in traditional Andalusian culture, and experience what is special and unique in Sierra Morena. The cuisine of the mountains you'll love for its simplicity, taste, and its seasonality.
From the first moment you will be helping to preserve wildlife and traditions as part of the revenue is used directly to help local projects. During your stay we will inform you of those being carried out. Just being our guest at the shelter will contribute in any of our projects. Thank you for your participation.
Birdlife and Birdwatching
The Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Arcohe are excellent areas to see Andalucias incredibly varied birdlife. We have many birdwatching groups use the refuge and receive trip reports from clients. You will find reports, photos and sightings of the Bee-Eater, Raptors (Eagles, Vultures and Kites), and many many different species throughout the year.
Wildlife
Amid the remains of old Mediterranean forests and pastures stands the "Sierra Morena Mountain Refuge". An excellent habitat and wildlife reserve, both flora and fauna. Read more

In the "Sierra Morena Mountain Refuge" located in Andalucia, but with one foot in Extremadura, we seek to recover and maintain the heritage of rural life in the mountains. Walking
In the unique setting of the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche, Biosphere Reserve (Western Andalusia), an endless network of paths starts from the door of the Refuge, which is located on the route up to the highest point of the Sierra Morena Occidental (Tentudía Monastery, 1,100 m).
